Four most common type of cranes in use today
Traditionally speaking, the Romans used cranes to build large monuments. In modern day, the cranes find enough use in building sprawling construction units, with high rise skyscrapers being one of them.
It would be surprising if you walked past a road in your city, and not note a crane or two in operation. These huge, sprawling equipments have made the construction industry, their home and thus, dominate every construction unit in a big way. For you, the simplest understanding about cranes is that they lift loads from one place and drop them at another.
There are different types of cranes in use nowadays and you would do well to understand the purpose for which the cranes have been used.
Here are the four most common types of cranes that are in use, today
Mobile cranes
The mobile cranes are commonly used in city locations. They have a telescopic boom mounted on a movable platform. The platform may have wheels if these cranes have to be used for railroad tracks. The end of the crane has a hook, which can support a demolition ball or a wrecking bucket, which helps in enabling the crane to be used for multiple purposes.
Loader cranes
In some aspects, the loader cranes work similar to the mobile cranes, with the only difference that the trailers of these cranes have hydraulic booms fitted on to them. The trailers are used to accommodate the materials in them during loading.
Floating cranes
The floating cranes can probably be considered one of the most flexible types of cranes in the industry. They are designed for use with the shipping industry. These cranes are designed to carry very heavy loads and are considered to work really well, especially when the containers are in an awkward shape.
Tower cranes
The tower cranes are considered the tallest amongst all other cranes. Don’t be surprised to see a ladder like construction at the base of the crane, as that is the way the crane is meant to be designed. Don’t be surprised – These tower cranes are used in the construction of skyscrapers and are some things you would find in your city.
As it is evident, the tower cranes find a lot of use in cities, especially those where skyscrapers are being constructed. Even with the other cranes, you would find them being used at some place or the other.
