Flat Pipe Load

A question about HF radio and antennas?

This question is about CB radio….but i could use some help from hams who use 10 meters for broadcasting also (the same physics pretty much apply)…..so i have a question about the range of a CB radio……i live in a place thats pretty flat and heavily wooded……I was wondering which antenna design will give me the most range out of my 4 watt transceiver…..The first design is a loaded 4 foot monopole mounted in my attic (keep in mind that my attics height is above most of the surrounding terrain and abstructions….also my attic has no wires or pipes in the ceiling and has thin walls)…..i know the attic walls will attenuate my signal slightly………the second design is the same antenna mounted on the ground (12 feet below my attic level) with a extensive system of below-ground radials…..so which one is better?

as a general rule, the higher the better – so in the attic may be the better of your choices because the attic has relatively few restrictions

now hopefully, this 4′ antenna is a ‘marine’ or ‘no ground plane needed’ antenna – else you will need a groundplane (counterpoise) for the antenna to operate correctly

how about putting the antenna in the attic and putting radials on it there ?
