What is the value of this old model train?

I have an old Lionel train and haven’t a clue how to find out anything about it. I can only say that it is all in it’s original packaging, all parts are there and it is in excellent shape. It shows little signs of play or wear. It has a 2-4-2 steam engine with the number 027 on the bottom, a gondola, boxcar, flatcar with trestle bridge and caboose. The original outer box has only the number 9664. I am sure it is post-war. Knowing the person it belonged to, I would guess it was made in the 50’s but this is a guess. Other than that, I know nothing. If anyone knows something about this or knows where I can find an accurate guide online that I don’t have to pay for, it would be very helpful. I want to sell it if it is worth something. Thank you

Lionel lead the way in toy trains for many years and they are certainly very collectible today. The 0-27 is most likely indicative of the gauge. The value of the cars might be traced on line if you were to put in the car number located on the side of the individual car. Lionel would make the same car style for many years with slight variations. Some were “short” production runs and of course those would be slightly more valuable. A suggestion – If you have a local hobby shop, you might try taking the set in and let them give you some idea as to the value. Good hunting!
