When asked to teach a self-defense class to a group of 3rd-grade Girl Scouts, I realized that my usual message of the 4 fronts of self-defense: a physical attacker, stress, depression and the aging process were neither age-appropriate nor uplifting. 

The opportunity to empower a group of young ladies, with their whole life in front of them, inspired me to rework my message.  Scary statistics would only plant fear in these fertile minds.  Instead, we talked about recognizing and honoring our personal space.  At the end of our workshop I asked each Girl Scout what she wants to be when she grows up.  I heard everything from author to doctor to skater.  That circle of young women represented so much hope.  I told them the best self-defense I could teach them today was to hold on to their dreams and never let anyone tell them they can’t get there.

This message holds true for all of us.  We all have our whole life ahead of us.  When I asked if there were any questions, the only one I got was, “What do you sell?” I laughed and told her that I sell people on believing in themselves and their dreams.  I simply remind others that they were once 8 and 9- year olds with Big dreams and now is the time to get back to those dreams.  .

Get back on track, reconnect with your 8 and 9-year old self and remember your dreams.  You will experience harmony and total clarity of mind.   Have no ideas how to get there?  Find Personal Freedom through a moving mediation like Kung Fu or Tai Chi.  Black Belts in Life fulfill their dreams!
