Scale Vehicles
I drive a commercial vehicle. If I am on private property, can a policeman force me off to scale my vehicle?
I was on ADM property when a DOT officer threatened me with jail if I didn’t pull out onto 27th street so that he could weigh my vehicle. He said he had me before I was on property, but I know he did not.
He would need evidence that you were on a public roadway, otherwise it’s his word against yours. That is why so many police departments are putting video recorders into the cars.
Hopefully he didn’t intimidate you into pulling out onto the public street. The best thing to do would be to shut down the vehicle and stay put. He, of course, could go ballistic on you and abuse his power (as another responder noted, not all cops are ethical), so that is a chance we take when confronted by a bad cop.
